An armored Leonardo AW119 Koala helicopter, owned by the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police (PCERJ) collided with some power lines while exchanging fire on criminals – members of the CV (Comando Vermelho/Red Command) – in the ground at Jardim Balneário Ana Clara favela, in Duque de Caxias (a city above Rio de Janeiro. It’s in the circle at the image below)
The helicopter was attempting to evade the ground fire, it collided with some power lines and got shot. Thankfully the helicopter did an emergency landing in the nearby hills. No injuries were reported.
You can see some real footage here. Plus, you can hear the gunshots from the criminals and the helicopter.
One of the local policemen said: “Aerial operations of this type are considered high risk due to the low altitude at which the aircraft must operate, which in itself represents a significant challenge, in addition to the inherent risks of possible confrontations with armed criminals, the existence of high voltage power lines and other obstacles.”, which i totally agree.
