Potomac River Mid-Air Collision (AA5342) Discussion Topic

Then we know how it crashed: The plane was coming in for a landing, saw the helicopter last second, collided, and both aircraft slammed into the river.

An ATC miscommunication that resulted in the crash? Pilot error on one or both sides? There are so many variables, and we won’t fully know until everything has been thoroughly investigated by the authorities.

Let me ask a very basic question. How the heck do you not see a freakin plane heading to
towards you. I mean idk abt you guys but i feel like a plane would be pretty easy to spot with its blinking lights. I know it seems the plane was sort of blending in with the city lights but still, i think it would be pretty easy to spot. Just saying

probably a pilot error, maybe they just thought the plane was far away from them and they continued flying in a straight line

I guess. Just seems really odd that the sikorsky pilots couldn’t see a CRJ that was less than a mile from them

they could climb if they saw the CRJ
