FireLeech Q&A!

Well, my first 100 days have come and gone on the forum, and I realized that I never did a proper introduction for myself; I kinda just spawned in one day and stuck around.

Now, I’m lazy and unoriginal, so my idea is to do a get to know me via Q&A on this topic. I’ll try to answer most questions, but there are a few things I won’t do:

  1. Name: I don’t think I leave a large digital footprint, but you could probably find it with a few hours of searching through public records and stuff if you really wanted for some reason.
  2. Exact location: you should know my general location already
  3. Face reveal: I already did it; you can find it if you know where to look

I’ll try to answer as many as I can until this topic dies!

Favorite holiday of the year?

Favorite commercial plane from the jet age?

Well, I just got back from spending the better part of a month touring around Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore, and I feel like my experiences in foreign nationals have really helped me grow as a person, make me more appreciative of certain things, and really enhance my life in unique ways, so I’d say it’s that.

If I were to pick one of the early jets, I’d have to go with the 707. It really just set Boeing up for success, and paved the way for modern aviation to come.

Travelling had that power, I totally agree!

Nice!

Whats your favourite Airbus plane?

My favorite “Airbus plane” is the A220, but my favorite Airbus design is probably the A350

  1. what airlines you flew
  2. whats your favorite plane from the 70s
  3. What’s your favorite plane livery
  1. I primarily fly Delta Airlines, but I’ve also flown on Southwest, United, Frontier, Air France, Precision Air, Korean Airlines, Air Asia, and Royal Brunei.
  2. Probably the Lockheed L1011 TriStar. It was pretty advanced for its time, so I’m sad it wasn’t a commercial success.
  3. This is a hard one for me. I’m particularly fond of the ANA Flying Honu a380 sea turtle liveries, so I’ll probably go with that.

What are your thoughts on Airbus’s open fan engine?

I had heard about the CFM RISE engine before, but I didn’t realize that Airbus was part of the actual development.

I expect the CFM RISE engine to be an absolute game changer in the industry, but something I personally believe is that the promise of massive efficiency gains in the near future is preventing as much innovation from both Airbus and Boeing, because there’s no sense in creating a brand new aircraft if it will become obsolete in just a few years.

I expect that neither manufacturer will create a brand new clean-sheet design until the CFM RISE engine debuts, which I feel could have some negative effects on the entire industry should the RISE program get further delayed or fail to meet expected performance.

I could actually yap for much longer on it, but I will spare y’all today.

Interesting . As someone who is really into aerospace engineering and designing aircraft it’s cool to see what other people think about it.

That sounds like a really fun job- working with some of the most advanced technology and materials known to man

What’s your favorite German fighter/bomber of World War II?

What is your favorite floaty plen?

I really like the Henschel Hs 129. On one of the variants, they stuck a 75mm anti-tank cannon that could be ejected mid flight in case of emergency. It’s the only other ground attack aircraft other than the A-10 to be specifically designed to kill enemy armor. Not really a fighter or a bomber, but it’s an interesting aircraft.

Interesting.

I love glazing the PBY Catalina flying boat, which basically carried the US during the war in the Pacific with it’s insane range, endurance, and intelligence gathering capabilities. It went on to outlast most of its replacements, and holds several claims to fame in civilian service in addition to it’s rich military career.
