When does a stick become a twig and where do branches come into this?

so I have had this question for a long time and gotten nowhere with it. as far as I know it is about width not length but then could a long tiwig be a branch. why can twigs be on trees but a stick has to be broken off one. why can a branch describe a broken off peice of a tree as well as a attached one. could you consider a log a stick becuase you have to remove the log form the tree to get a log like a stick. I am very confused please help.

Well, I would consider twigs to be the skinniest of this wooden family, bigger than the twig would be the stick, a stick has a wider diameter than a twig, bigger than the stick is the branch.

But I would be in the same position as you when wondering why is it called a twig on a branch but not a stick on a branch

what would you call a really stubby branch tho?

I would still call it a branch, because its would be thicker than a stick

interesting. what about if you have a branch that is thicker than a log or is a log specifically for the trunk? and what if you had a really skinny trunk could you call that a stick or a twig?

Exactly, if this “branch” is thicker than a log, it is no longer a branch but now is a log

yeah but it can be considered a log too if a branch is stubby and thick
