Reporting Messages/Posts to Staff

If you find an inappropriate message/post/topic on the forum, there are several ways to report it to staff.

How do I know when to report a message/post/topic?

A post/topic/message should be reported if:

  • It’s not related to the topic of which it was posted in
  • It is in violation of the Code of Conduct
  • It is spam or the topic has no meaning to it
  • The content inside of it is illegal or promotes illegal activities
  • The content inside of the message/post/topic is plagiarized or stolen from the internet
  • Any other reason as to which you feel needed.

How do I report the message/post/topic?

On the forum, we have implemented a system called the flagging system. This is the easiest way to report a message/post/topic to moderators.

Flagging a Chat Message

In any chat channel, click on the . . . icon on any message and select “Report Message”

From there, several options will pop up. These options include:

  • It’s Off-Topic: Select this option if the message sent is not relevant to the channel it was posted in.
  • It’s Inappropriate: Select this option if the message violates the Code of Conduct.
  • It’s Spam: Select this option if the message is spam or is an advertisement.
  • It’s Illegal: Select this if you feel the message contains illegal content inside of it.
  • Something else: If the option for which you’re reporting the message isn’t found above, select this option and describe to staff what the issue is.

Once selected, click :black_flag: Flag message .

Flagging a Post

On any post, click on the . . . icon and select the :black_flag: icon.

From there, several options will pop up. These options include:

  • It’s Off-Topic: Select this option if the post sent is not relevant to the topic it was posted in.
  • It’s Inappropriate: Select this option if the post violates the Code of Conduct.
  • It’s Spam: Select this option if the post is spam or is an advertisement.
  • It’s Illegal: Select this if you feel the post contains illegal content inside of it.
  • Stolen Content: If something in this post contains content that was stolen from the internet or plagiarized, select this option.
  • Something else: If the option for which you’re reporting the post isn’t found above, select this option and describe to staff what the issue is.

Once selected, click :black_flag: Flag Post .

Flagging a Topic

You can flag the entire topic if it violates the Code of Conduct by clicking :black_flag: Report Topic at the bottom of any topic.

From there, several options will pop up. These options include:

  • It’s Inappropriate: Select this option if the topic violates the Code of Conduct.
  • It’s Spam: Select this option if the topic is spam or is an advertisement.
  • It’s Illegal: Select this if you feel the topic contains illegal content inside of it.
  • Stolen Content: If something in this topic contains content that was stolen from the internet or plagiarized, select this option.
  • Something else: If the option for which you’re reporting the topic isn’t found above, select this option and describe to staff what the issue is.

Once selected, click :black_flag: Flag Topic .

What happens once something is flagged?

Once a post/message/topic is flagged, it appears in the Review Queue for staff. From there, we will review the flag and take action if needed if the post is in violation of the Code of Conduct. If the flag is “agreed” with, the post/message/topic will be hidden on the forum, and the post owner can discuss with staff for the next steps. If we “disagree” with the flag, the post will stay on the forum.

My post was flagged and hidden. What happens next?

You will receive an automated message from the forum’s system regarding what post was flagged and what the next steps are. After 10 minutes, users are allowed to edit their flagged post and to remove the content that violates the Code of Conduct. If the post isn’t edited after 30 days, it is automatically deleted.

Contacting Moderators Directly

If you are unable to flag a post or need to DM the moderators directly, there are several ways to do this.

1.) Click the “Contact Staff” button on the top of the forum. Note: This isn’t available on mobile
2.) Click @ForumModerators and select “Message”
3.) Mention the @ForumModerators group on any topic or post.

In Conclusion

Flagging and directly messaging staff are great ways to report messages and issues to the staff team. We encourage you to do so where needed.

Thank you,
