Art Description
The North American X-10, was a re-usable design, made as an unmanned technology demonstrator, that resembled high similarity to the SM-64’s design.
It features large canards, and a V-tail shape, along with its two Westinghouse J40 turbojet engines, and curved intakes.
The X-10 had a max speed of Mach 2.05, achieved during the 19th test flight, whilst breaking the record for the fastest turbojet aircraft.
Unfortunately the project was cancelled due to the rapid advancements for Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM), and the jet would be placed into storage, before being transported to the National Museum of the United States Air Force (USAF) in Dayton, Ohio, or coordinates 39.780742, -84.109529 on google maps.
In my opinion, the X-10 was an amazing concept, showing a great design, with much potential. Sad that it had to be shut down, but at least it still stands today.
In the loving memory for all experimental jets, from ones that couldn’t win a chosen project such as the YF-23 Black Widow, or like this X-10, where it was just slightly too late for the times.
I hope you all enjoy this artwork, and I will enjoy making more marvelous, lost treasures of aviation in the near future.
Have a fantastic day everyone!
