Tropical Storm Alvin Update #6

NHC Official Update

  • The NHC has the storm as weakened in the past few hours, peaking at 60mph, and slowly weakening, as it has entered colder waters and an unfavorable environment. This was apparent last night in satellite imagery as the core being unorganized and hollowing out. The current winds are now 50mph and a pressure of 1001mb officially.

PKTC Analysis #5

  • PKTC has this storm weakening, and also having winds of 50mph, with a pressure of 999mb. The storm is still forecast to hit Baja California and enter the Sea of Cortez, bringing rain to the southwestern U.S.

This will likely be the last update that we give about Alvin (except for the track update).

Tropical Activity Update (May 30th)

  • AW02 (Designated by PKTC) - AW02, a hurricane forecasted to be located in the gulf, is forecasted by the GFS model to become a major hurricane, and the models are consistent with this one. It is forecast to have a peak wind of about 140mph, and a minimum pressure of 945mb. This would be Major Hurricane Andrea as it hits just east of New Orleans. Take this with a grain of salt though, as it is days and days away. It certainly does have a high likelihood of development though. (>90% / 14d).

  • Tropical Storm Alvin - Tropical Storm Alvin is weakening as it heads toward Los Cabos, Mexico, and entering the cold waters of the Sea of Cortez.

  • AW02 (Designated by PKTC) - AW02 is now expected to form in the Western Carribean, and move by the Floridian Coast as it strengthens either into a strong tropical storm or a hurricane, and then get pulled east over Florida (near Gainesville) and go by North Carolina as it weakens and turns extratropical. (90% / 14d)
    11 days until AW02 forms
  • Remnant Alvin - Tropical Storm Alvin has weakened in the past few hours, and is now a remnant, bringing rain to regions around the Sea of Cortez and the southwestern U.S.
