History

Founding and early expansion

Cloud9 Airways was founded in 1950 and began domestic operations in 1951. The airline expanded internationally in the 1960s, acquiring widebody aircraft and entering transatlantic markets. In the 1970s, Cloud9 acquired Concorde aircraft, pioneering premium supersonic passenger service.

Supersonic program

Cloud9 Airways became internationally known for its Concorde fleet and later ordered Boom Overture aircraft to expand supersonic operations. These aircraft primarily serve high-demand business routes such as New York–London and Los Angeles–Tokyo.

Merger with Airoo Air

In 2023, Cloud9 merged with Airoo Air, expanding domestic and regional operations. The merger integrated Airoo Air aircraft into Cloud9 Express and created one of the largest U.S. airline groups.

Proposed merger with Delta

In 2026, Delta Air Lines proposed a full merger with Cloud9 Airways to combine global long-haul and supersonic operations with Delta’s domestic and international network. The merger is under regulatory review.

Destinations

Cloud9 Airways serves more than 180 destinations worldwide, including major cities in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Cloud9 Express handles regional and short-haul routes, connecting smaller cities to Cloud9’s hubs.
