Since 2011, Air New Zealand has been praised for its stunning uniforms, with their beautiful purple colours and unique koru and fauna-inspired designs. But for the first time in 14 years, its time for a makeover.
Renowned kiwi designer Emilia Wickstead has brought to us the next generation of fantastic Air New Zealand uniforms, created by not just herself, but also Tā Moko artist Te Rangitu Netana.
Worn by 6,000 Air New Zealanders across the country, the old uniforms have become a staple to the New Zealand aviation community and Air NZ’s passengers, so the new one will still need some getting used to. Its still in the testing phase, and I think it might be getting used a small bit on planes as a way to “sample” the new uniforms’ capabilities, but it will be fully put into use by 2026.
With the new colours, patterns, items of clothing and overall look, these new uniforms are set to become a future-classic, and are meant to represent the cultural identity of ground crew, flight attendants, and flight crew that are going to wear them in the near future. Personally, I for one think they look great! They almost look like they are fit for a time before, almost 1990s. Who knows, they might be custom-taylored to each employee!? Not everyone will love them though, but most do.
Without any further ado, these new uniforms are indeed, deserving of a place among the skies with some of the worlds best crew.
